Surprisingly disappointing

I really liked the idea of this, having the whole movie as a big thick comic book. But it has a lot of flaws. 1) The printing is grainy and sometimes the colors don't sync quite right. 2) There are a few places where movie frames are re-used a lot (And since the rest of the book is actually very good about this, it's really noticeable). E.G. in one scene, a single image of Bogo is used about six times. 3) Like a lot of comic adaptations, too much time is spent on the early scenes, so a lot of later ones have to be scrunched-up to fit in. The action scenes are especially mangled. And one of my favorite parts, a very touching one near the end, was cut out entirely!

I really hate having to say this isn't worth the money. I liked the movie, and I wanted to like this comic. But I can honestly say that if I had a copy of the film and Photoshop, I think I could have done a better job than this.

Der hier vorgelegte und mit Kommentaren versehene Text erscheint zum ersten Mal gedruckt auf Deutsch - mehr als achtzig Jahre nach der Veröffentlichung in englischer Sprache in England und den Vereinigten Staaten. Dabei handelt es sich um die Übersetzung einer niederländischen Fassung, welche - stark gekürzt gegenüber der englischen und dadurch wesentlich gestraffter - als Sonderpublikation des in den Niederlanden seinerzeit äußerst populären Wochenblatts "Het Leven" unter dem Titel "Mijn Leven en hoe ik den Keizer trouwde" (Mein Leben und wie ich den Kaiser heiratete) erschienen ist. Hermine, geborene Prinzessin Reuß ä.L., ist von ihren Zeitgenossen häufig nicht sehr positiv beurteilt worden; daran mögen ihre Lebenstüchtigkeit und ihr daraus resultierendes Selbstbewußtsein nicht ganz unschuldig sein, andererseits auch ihr leidenschaftliches Temperament, welches sich bis hin zu Wutausbrüchen steigern konnte. In den Tagebüchern Sigurds von Ilsemann, aber auch in anderen Veröffentlichungen aus dem Umkreis von Haus Doorn finden sich immer wieder Belege für diese Unbeherrschtheit, die so ganz im Widerspruch stand zu der sonst und nach außen hin von der Autorin betont gepflegten und geforderten Förmlichkeit. Bei der Lektüre ihrer Ausführungen läßt sich erkennen, daß sie eine außergewöhnlich gebildete und vielseitig interessierte Frau war, die durchaus ihre - von ihrer Position als Mitglied einer alten Familie regierender Fürsten geprägte - eigene Meinung zu den Ereignissen ihrer Zeit hatte und diese auch vehement vertrat.
