I was really taken with the first book in this series that really was a journey down the rabbit hole that messed with your head and which you really do need to read to understand this second book. I have been really looking forward to this next installment to see how the characters all fared. While the story wasn’t as mind blowing as book one now that I understand the procedure that takes Jane "in", Tara still delivers a complex and gut-wrenching story.
We are once again sucked into the complexity of Jane’s mind from the off as we find her in the middle of one of her ‘mind visits’ and once again she is sucked into a maze of indicators to try and piece together the puzzle. And what a dark twisted puzzle this is, Jane is trying to piece together what happened to Ashley a young girl found on the brink of death on a frozen river shore. Her story is disturbing even to read and leaves Jane reeling from its impact.
Jane can’t let Ashley’s story go and is determined to find the person responsible for the things she learned during the mind visit but life suddenly becomes as complicated in reality for her. Her relationship with Dash takes an unexpected turn and suddenly her partner also appears to not be who she thought. The case keeps taking deeper and deeper twists and becomes bigger than Jane ever imagined. Can Jane work through the clues to find justice for Ashley?
This is a great series that has a superb main female lead in Jane who is an elite army officer. It is complex and really sucks you into each story and I am once again looking forward to the next book in this series.

I was so excited to dive back in to this crazy mind bending world with Jane! What crazy crap are we going to experience with her this time! I didn’t think it could get more horrifying then Blood and Bone. I laugh now, this is Tara freaking Brown we are talking about here! This woman’s mind is crazy scary LOL Right off the back you start the book in confusion until you realize Jane is in a mind jump. TB still manages to keep us confused, guessing and on our toes even though we now know this crazy game of mind jumping Jane plays. And as terrible as things are, because let’s face it, Jane is only involved in the worst of the worst cases, you still find moments of pure happiness and hysterical banter mixed throughout. We get to see a new side of Jane here too, a little bit of a softer side. We get to delve into her brain a little and see why she does what she does in the mind jumps and how smart her little brain is at putting the puzzle pieces together. The depth of the story that unfolds here is very intense! I can’t wait to read it again so I can that much more of the little clues hidden throughout. My husband is even sucked in and obsessed with this story and is upset he has to wait so long for the next book! :D

My first thought was, "Is this one better than book 1, or just as good?"

I'm still deciding on that one.

But seriously, after everything made sense at the end of book 1, book 2 is easier to follow. Oh, don't get me wrong, it's still mind-blowing and mind-boggling, and it still has you guessing and second-guessing everything.

So, Jane is Jane whenever she's not analyzing patients, victims that are in a coma. When she's not hunting down psychos, she's a woman that has a hot doctor for a fiance, one that loves her and would die for her. I have to tell you, Dash/Derek has stolen my heart, that perfect British bastard.

But nothing is as it seems. Both in Jane's professional and personal life. Who's the psycho that did gruesome and horrible things to eleven girls, how did it all start and is it someone Jane knows? Plus, what secrets does Dash/Derek keep from Jane? Who is he, really?

I am so going to reread both of these books, before the third and last one is out! Loved it. Brilliant x2. 5 stars.

Donalyn Miller says she has yet to meet a child she couldn't turn into a reader. No matter how far behind Miller's students might be when they reach her 6th grade classroom, they end up reading an average of 40 to 50 books a year. Miller's unconventional approach dispenses with drills and worksheets that make reading a chore. Instead, she helps students navigate the world of literature and gives them time to read books they pick out themselves. Her love of books and teaching is both infectious and inspiring. The book includes a dynamite list of recommended "kid lit" that helps parents and teachers find the books that students really like to read.

From Booklist
Because she couldn’t find a book that showed her how to use her own love of books to imbue her elementary students with the same love, Miller, Teacher Magazine blogger, decided to write her own. She recalls her personal journey as a teacher and the surprise and disappointment of learning that book loving cannot be automatically passed on to students. No more having the whole class read the same novel. She gave her students questionnaires to determine their interests and personally selected stacks of books of possible interest to them, then allowed them to read independently—at least 40 books a school year. She recounts the experience of some students struggling and others exhilarated by the freedom to read. Miller’s tactics resulted in improvement in her students’ vocabulary, comprehension, and writing. She also saw students respect book suggestions that came from a reader’s passion rather than a teacher’s agenda. Miller includes reading lists, activities, questionnaires, and other resources. Although aimed at teachers, this book will also definitely appeal to parents interested in encouraging their children to read. --Vanessa Bush

Review
[Starred review] Miller, a sixth-grade language arts and social studies teacher and blogger, has enabled students of many different backgrounds to enjoy reading and to be good at it; her students regularly score high on the Texas standardized tests. Her approach is simple yet provocative: affirm the reader in every student, allow students to choose their own books, carve out extra reading time, model authentic reading behaviors, discard timeworn reading assignments such as book reports and comprehension worksheets, and develop a classroom library filled with high-interest books. Her students regularly read more than 40 books in a school year and leave her classroom with an appreciation and love of books and reading. Miller provides many tips for teachers and parents and includes a useful list of ultimate reading suggestions picked by her students. This outstanding contribution to the literature is highly recommended for teachers, parents, and others serving young students.—Mark Bay, Univ. of the Cumberlands Lib., Williamsburg, KY (Library Journal, March 15, 2009)

From the Back Cover
". . . a primer of the heart on how to make reading magical again."
—Carol Ann Tomlinson

Donalyn Miller is a dedicated teacher who says she has yet to meet a child she couldn't turn into a reader. In The Book Whisperer, Miller takes us inside her 6th grade classroom to reveal the secrets of her powerful but unusual instructional approach. Rejecting book reports, comprehension worksheets, and other aspects of conventional instruction, Miller embraces giving students an individual choice in what they read combined with a program for independent reading. She also focuses on building a classroom library of high-interest books, and above all on modeling appropriate and authentic reading behaviors. Her zeal for reading is infectious and inspiring, and the results speak for themselves. No matter how far behind Miller's students may be when they start out, they end up reading an average of 40 books per year, achieve high scores on standardized tests, and internalize a love for reading that lasts long after they've left her class.

Travel alongside the author as she leads her students to discover the ample rewards of reading and literature. Brought to life with Miller's passionate voice, The Book Whisperer will help teachers support students of all levels on their path to reading success. It also includes an invaluable list of books that Miller's students most enjoy reading.

"Miller's new book, The Book Whisperer, is a breath of fresh air. Powerful and practical, this book will support you as you change your classroom for the better while helping you to understand how to overcome current classroom cultures where some children learn and many learn to hate reading."
—Richard L. Allington, Ph.D., University of Tennessee

"In The Book Whisperer, Donalyn Miller deftly describes the inherent need children have to engage with books, intellectually and emotionally. The book is a timely and rare gift for teachers."
—Ellin Oliver Keene, author and consultant

"This book reminds anyone—who is lucky enough to have loved a book—what classrooms and kids have lost in our frenzy to 'cover' content and standardize student performance in the name of reading. This is a primer of the heart on how to make reading magical again."
—Carol Ann Tomlinson, William Clay Parish, Jr. Professor of Education, University of Virginia

It's a fine book. It has affirmed what I have always ...
By Anne Smith
It's a fine book. It has affirmed what I have always done in the classroom with my fourth and fifth graders; however, if Donalyn Miller, or her editors are reading this, I would suggest these things:
1. The self congratulatory tone gets old about half way through.
2. I am halfway through, but I have yet to see practical advice on HOW to implement what she does. For example, she writes about writing in the student journals...I'd like to know HOW she has the time to do this. I have given this my best effort, but the truth is that unless you have nothing else to do, such as writing learning plans, grading papers, etc, these responses take a while, and can take up a ton of time.
3. She has not stated what she is doing while the kids are reading independently. I run reading groups, and typically have 4 or 5 groups, based on reading level. If the kids are not reading a novel in group, what are they doing? I can say that skill practice is AWFUL when not connected to something they are reading.
4. I would like suggestions for younger kids. She teaches 6th grade. The level of response in a 3rd or 4th grader is very different from a 6th grader, particularly when they love reading, but have challenges like paying attention or high distractability.

For teachers who have not done what she has, I suggest getting the Fountas and Pinnell books on Guided Reading. Much of what she describes is outlined in their books.

Life Changing
By Lyn
This book gives such a great view of what reading really is compared to how schools are teaching it. This book gives me hope for public schools and it has given me life changing advice in regards to myself as a "dormant" reader and in regards to homeschooling my own two children.

I thought this book was well written and easy to follow. The personal accounts give you a great visual to go along with the author's words. The quotes from famous people as well as students are inspiring and refreshing.

I read this book on the Kindle Fire and the text was very well formatted and easy to follow.

I will probably buy a physical copy of this book to keep on hand and reread when my kids are older. I would recommended this book to anyone with kids or in a teacher/mentor position.

This Book Has Changed My Teaching More Than Any Other Book. For Real.
By Amazon Customer
This book has changed my teaching more than any book I have ever read. I'm a veteran HS English teacher (with almost 20 years in the classroom), and for years, my students have been telling me that they loved reading in elementary school but that in middle school in HS, their English teachers have committed "Readicide" (which is another great book, by the way!). So, the very people who entered the profession to promote a love of literacy are the ones who are killing these students' love of reading. Gulp. They are worksheeted to death, spend 4 weeks beating one book into the ground, and do what Miller calls "literary arts and crafts" instead of discussing great literature. This book had more takeaways for my teaching than any other book, and believe me: I went into it thinking that a 6th grade reading teacher wouldn't have a thing for this busy high school teacher that has to follow a set curriculum and hit all of the standards. Thankfully, I couldn't have been more wrong. My SMART goal this year is to help my students fall back in love with reading (because they all loved going to the library every week and getting new books--even the struggling, reluctant readers that I have now in HS). The biggest change is that I now have my students read for the first 10 minutes of every class. They say they look forward to coming to class, because they get to either read what I've assigned for that week or read a book they've been dying to tear into but always had to put off until summer. I have Miller's follow-up book on its way (which is reviewed as being fabulous but just not as fabulous as this one). I can't say enough about this book!

Review
Of course the big lure ... is Locke's evisceration of Eastwood, with whom she lived for 13 years until they split up in 1989 in spectacularly messy fashion.... Locke is at her best recounting what it's like to live in the bubble of a superstar. -- Entertainment Weekly

People want dirt then complain that it "outs" the celebrity. I have no problems with any of Ms. Locke's statements. I really enjoyed the anecdotes behind her life and climb to early stardom. The Eastwood stuff is pretty tame, but still...it is interesting to rewatch the movies they've both done and know a little history behind it.

An unusual, but compelling autobiography
By jjjones
SPOILER ALERT- This review, gives away key parts of the book. In a way, it is more intended for people who have already read the book, to compare how somebody else felt about the material.
This well written biography could easily be called 'Gordon, Clint, and ME'. Its not quite the book I expected, but its certainly engaging reading.
In the 60's, Sondra married her friend Gordon, but due to his homosexuality it was not a sexual relationship. Much of this book is taken up with anecdotes of how Sondra feels Gordon is a mystic on earth who is connected to god. She provides countless anecdotes of what she feels are signs or synchronicities, that Gordon experiences, and at times this can become quite tedious.
Some of the examples she provides seem quite impressive, and sometimes it seems that she and Gordon are looking too hard for any kind of sign. Some of these supposed signs border on the ridiculous, and hysterical, but some of them, like aura's in photographs sound quite interesting.
So much of this book is about Gordon that it could easily be called, "my obsession with Gordon". However, there is no denying that they seem to have a very special and magical life-long relationship, one that would likely make a great screenplay actually. As I read this book, I could totally visualize robert pattinson doing a great job playing the role of Gordon. It truly could be a great movie in the right hands and if it focused on the first 5 or 7 years of their relationship.
theirs is an unusual platonic love story. According to Sondra herself, she has financially supported Gordon for most of his adult life. This seems not only unusual, but a bit irritating at times because, Gordon is apparently extremely talented with all things artistic and creative, and one would think he could use his talents to provide an income for himself. However, she never provides an explanation as to why he doesn't work, except that he seems to be so busy chasing mystical clues that, he doesn't have time for such mundanities.

One part of the book I found irritating, was when Sondra found a lump in her breast. Gordon starts receiving all kinds of signs that everything is going to be okay. But everything didn't turn out okay. she needed to have the breast removed, then a 2nd breast, and then had to undergo radiation to eradicate other cancer than had spread to her body. I felt totally ripped off, perhaps on behalf of Sondra. Gordon's 'special powers' were useless to impede this cancer. Yet she never calls him out on this, unless god's intention was for her to die of cancer, and Gordon somehow worked his magic so that only her breasts were sacrificed.
Her writing was giving the impression that any day, the hospital was going to call her and say,"its the strangest thing, but this lump in your breast turned out to be harmless....normally these things are always cancer!"
If Gordon does have some sort of special connection to god, as mrs.locke believes, then I have to ask the questions, "what is the point of his gift?" "what good is he doing with his gift?" "Is he using it to save peoples lives or to prevent disasters before they happen?" Not according to this book he isn't. Did Gordon get a 'sign' telling him that Sondra shouldn't get involved with eastwood, and shouldn't get her tubes tied? Nope. Nada.
It appears, by mrs.locke's own account, that he has a 'pointless' connection to god, which serves no particular great good. On another odd note, after spending so much time writing about Gordon, she fails to write a closing note about their relationship at the end of the book, or even what Gordon intends to do with his life and/or his 'gift'.
Locke gives a fair account of her relationship with eastwood and I found her account to be quite convincing, particularly as she does a good job describing the love and attraction that initially existed between them, and also some of the nice things eastwood did for her AND Gordon before everything turned so sour.
Unfortunately, though, it seems apparent he was a cad, who treated her quite poorly and maliciously, especially near the end of their relationship and in the tense aftermath with various lawsuits and trickery on his part. I believe her report that he essientially torpedoed the end of her Hollywood career, due to his actions and her attempts to seek justice for herself. She certainly changed my opinion about someone I was a big fan of.
Locke has an unusual and often entertaining ability to produce dialogue between people that occurred decades ago. Perhaps she recorded these conversations in her diary, because surely no one would remember these conversations verbatim. Some of these conversations drag on, such as a conversation she had with her father during an attempt to reconciliate, but generally, they make for great reading as they really capture the moment, such as a certain 3 way conversation between eastwood, locke, and jane brolin.
One odd flaw of this book, is that in one of the last chapters, she mentions she met a doctor named scott, and there was an attraction. a chapter or two later, she tosses out, how they've been happy together for 6 years. It felt odd to have her writing page after page about her friend Gordon, her anguish about eastwood, her sense that her Hollywood female friends did not have her back, that she totally skipped accounting the blossoming of this relationship. Afterall, if you have a mastectomy, and fall in love with one of your doctors....I would think that's a much more interesting story than some of these endless accounts of 'signs' that Gordon saw.
On a sad note, as people had warned her at the time, and which she herself probably realized, by taking on clint eastwood and warner brothers, she seemed to have become a pariah in the Hollywood community. writing a book about these proceedings and dishing the dirt about some of her former Hollywood power-friends, probably didn't help, but her career came to a solid stop after the lawsuits, and this tell-all book.

Doesn't reflect well on either Clint or Sondra
By Drive-In Kid
The book is entertaining on some level, providing a behind the scenes look at the underbelly of Hollywood. Locke paints Clint as pretty much a heartless, stingy, egomaniacal liar and herself as the victim. But an honest reading would also reveal that Locke left herself open to be hurt and had some "issues" as well.

The fact that she was married to an openly gay man (a childhood friend) prior to and during the entire time she was with Clint gives one a clue as to the level of mind we are dealing with. Then we have the detailed accounts of supposedly supernatural events that began to wear on me after awhile. Most of these incidents could be explained away yet they are given enormous significance as if they are some sort of prophecy.

I came away from the book liking Clint somewhat less, and thinking Ms. Locke was a few cards shy of a full deck. I also expected more detailed accounts of the films she and Clint made together, there isn't much about that at all. Hollyweird indeed...

Excellent Point Of care Resource on DIABETES for Primary Care
By D. Shah
I just bought my hard copy last month and I have also heard Dr Jeff Unger in person on diabetes seminars. He is a primary care physician and being primary care physician myself this book is all I need to know improve diabetes care for my patients. This is not a Harisson or a detailed Thesis on Diabetes but practicle great point of care informations and diferent tools which can be used in an office settings to educate patient and office staff to improve diabetes care. With the fact that 90% of Diabetic population in US (out of approx 22 million people with diabetes)being taken care by Primary care physicians this is a must have tool I believe. The only thing better than the book is to hear Dr Jeff Uner in person. I would definately recommened this book to every Primary care MD or residents.

Excellent diabetes management reference for PCPs
By K. Cho
I have just completed the section explains insulin initiation in this book, and it was enjoyable reading. One can read medical references like Harrison's about diabetes, but this is the book specifically written for primary care provider. All the information in the book has been written in practical manner so PCP can apply it instantly. My only complain is the book is printed in black and white, even the pictures. It has many helpful tables and algorithms, but it would have been much better if they were color coded.

Diabetes Text book
By Dave Woeckener
Amazingly comprehensive review of all aspects of diabetes. This book is up to date, evidence-based, case based and most importantly, written from the heart. Rarely do medical text books read like novels. This is the exception. Check out the chapter on managing mental illness in patients with diabetes. The complications chapter is the most comprehensive and current review I have encountered.

Filtering the Greenwashing in IT

This is one of the first book's on Green IT, giving you an overview of the different areas you need to look into to put a Green IT program in place. The information in this book will help you filter the greenwash hype from the reality of what will work as a succesful green program needs to align with business goals.

I've given a few copies of this book to friends who are interested in the Green IT topic, and they all have gained new insight. It can be ironic that a Green IT book is printed, but it is printed on 100% recycled paper, and can save travel time for people who were considering attending Green IT events.

Informative Book
By IT Guy
Green IT is described as a book for those in Business Information Systems
roles, which is why I bought it in the first place. However, the book covers a lot more areas than just IT-related greening. I imagine that this book would be of interest to almost anyone interested in understanding influences and actions around the current crop of green issues. The book covered such a wide range of topics, and is written so thoughtfully, I found myself really enjoying "the read". It's a real eye opener to learn about what is happening in the world, and nice to read about what is being done about it (the section on e-waste comes to mind). I'm not a big "reviewer" but I can tell you that I really enjoyed this book (and the website they put up for all of the links is a really nice touch).

Great book on Green IT, solid foundation and some surprises along the way.
By Jacques the Rock
Green IT, I find the name evoking an image of the jolly green giant gone tech savvy as I find my home in southern Minnesota. However, this is a serious book covering a very *HOT* topic. The whole world is thinking green or at least they are starting to think green more and more. We hear doomsday predictions of coastal flooding due to the polar ice melts with seas rising 200 feet. We hear of super storms, which may be brewing which when compared to our current devastating hurricanes are just mere little siblings of these monsters and we wonder how much of it is true.

This book isn't all about the end of our planet as we know it, though the authors due make side comments to the subject, some in jest and some maybe more serious. What this book does, is it gets to the nitty gritty of why IT (Information Technologies) should care about the "green" movement. Make no mistake, I do believe we are in for some serious issues in the near global future in regards to our planet's ecosystem, however what Green IT does is it separates the predictions of horror from the more quantifiable facts. The book looks at what every IT professional WILL have to deal with, and that's power or lack of it due to the ever increasing demand, e-waste and it's plague on our planet, going paperless, TCO (Total Cost of Ownership), and a menagerie of other related topics, all centered around and akin to the "green" movement.

As an IT professional myself, I find this book to be a MUST read. The content is excellent and well organized. The authors show a real understanding of the challenges facing the IT world and provide excellent examples and justifications throughout the book. As an IT professional, some of the material was definitely already in my arsenal, but yet I found a significant amount of new information and some eye opening realizations along the way. I would definitely recommend this book to other IT professionals.

On a personal level, upon reading this book, I even found things which I could do on a personal level and I am now planning to do at home. The authors make good suggestions and while not all of the material presented applies to the everyday homeowner, there are definitely things that do which make this book transcend beyond the IT world. Additionally, the authors have developed a companion website, which provides links to information found in the book which I found to be an excellent extension of the book material.

Overall, I recommend this book and have found it both interesting and useful.

Supernormal: Science, Yoga, and the Evidence for Extraordinary Psychic Abilities, by Dean Radin

Can yoga and meditation unleash our inherent supernormal mental powers, such as telepathy, clairvoyance, and precognition? Is it really possible to perceive another person's thoughts and intentions? Influence objects with our minds? Envision future events? And is it possible that some of the superpowers described in ancient legends, science fiction, and comic books are actually real, and patiently waiting for us behind the scenes? Are we now poised for an evolutionary trigger to pull the switch and release our full potentials?

Dean Radin, Director of Research at the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) and bestselling author of The Conscious Universe, presents persuasive new experimental evidence for the existence of such phenomena. He takes us on a thrilling scientific journey and challenges outdated assumptions that these abilities are mere superstition. Focusing on Patanjali's mysterious Yoga Sutras -- 2,000 year-old meditation practices believed to release our extraordinary powers -- Radin offers powerful evidence confirming that sometimes fact is much stranger, spookier, and more wonderful than the wildest fiction.

From Publishers Weekly
Does being a skilled yogi give one superpowers—and if so, how can we prove it? In this latest, Radin (The Conscious Universe) holds the ancient practices and theories of yoga up to the discerning lens of modern science. He maps yoga's migration from East to West, its evolution from past to present, and he examines the practice's ur-text: a 2,000-year-old manuscript known as the Yoga Sutras. Where, then, does science fit in? While Radin, a senior scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences, is frequently critical of the discipline, he nevertheless argues that an array of tests may be able to lend credence to siddhis (psychic phenomena like telepathy and precognition) and some of yoga's other more mysterious claims. But this is not a read for the unread: Radin's discussion assumes a considerable knowledge base, and it's unclear whom he's writing for: devout yogis or skeptical scientists? Or both? (Radin's goal may be to collapse these distinctions: in his conclusion, he argues for a worldview that melds the ancient with the modern, the scientific with the yogic.) Though unfocused and opaque at times, this is nevertheless an admirable attempt to bridge the gap between the scientific and the spiritual realm by focusing on a common desire for self- and societal improvement. Review

“In Supernormal, consciousness researcher Dr. Dean Radin shows compellingly that specific ancient claims about extraordinary psychic abilities are real, and how they have been confirmed by an outpouring of ingenious experiments whose statistical power is simply galactic. Supernormal is the crown jewel in Dr. Radin’s landmark trilogy, which also includes The Conscious Universe and Entangled Minds.  Supernormal is a reader’s delight. Beautifully written, it is spiced with that rarest ingredient in science writing:  humor. If this book does not take your breath away, it should, because it reveals how we can awaken to innate human potentials that are glorious, on which our future may depend. Thank you, Dr. Radin, for showing the way.” -- Larry Dossey, MD, author of One Mind

"In the last 50 years, major discoveries in modern science increasingly support the wisdom and vision of the ancient philosophers and sages. Dean Radin’s work is a major step in the same context, showing us how the statements made by the ancient sages like Patanjali are supported by the current research conducted with strictest scientific protocols. Radin’s work seems to bear even greater promise of what is yet to come." --Swami Veda Bharati, D. Lit.

“Great advances in science are made by following the evidence, wherever it may lead. Adhering to this principle, internationally-known researcher and author Dean Radin convincingly demonstrates that psi phenomena invalidate the assumptions associated with the obsolete materialist worldview. Recognizing the fundamental aspect of mind and consciousness, Dr. Radin also explains why it is now time to significantly revise and expand our concepts about who we are and the ultimate nature of reality.” --Mario Beauregard, author of The Spiritual Brain and Brain Wars

"As with Dr. Radin’s previous work, this book is thoroughly researched, clearly written, and immensely engaging. Once again he has pushed the boundaries of religion, science, psychology, and philosophy. Invaluable reading!" --Michael Bloch, University of San Francisco

"Dean Radin is a modern-day Galileo of psychical research.  He is an impeccable scholar and premier experimental scientist, and this is a terrific book.  Come, look through his telescope; with great clarity, he goes right to the core of the most profound issues in the contemporary science of mind.  By including a detailed review of a variety of experimental findings, this book presents in one easily accessible place a wealth of information, creating a valuable reference and teaching/learning resource for students and scholars alike.  And by connecting all this with contemplative investigations of the nature of mind carried out over the course of millennia, this book makes an invaluable contribution to expanding the modern dialogue between science and the contemplative traditions." --David E. Presti, University of California, Berkeley

“In Supernormal, Dean Radin skillfully weaves threads of Eastern praxis (yoga) and the results of Western psi experiments into a seamless and fascinating tapestry, one that portrays not merely who we are but what we might aspire to become.” --Daniel Sheehan

Radin's Most Reader-Friendly Book Yet
By K. Hoffman
Dean Radin has put together something pretty special in "Supernormal." His first two books are fantastic and are must-reads for anyone interested in psi research. Nonetheless, they are not quite so reader-friendly as this one is. Radin starts off by asking whether or not the Buddha amassed such a worldwide following simply on account of being a "nice guy" with morally edifying teachings or if, perhaps, he and Christ and any number of other religious figures may have actually had some of the paranormal capacities they have been historically noted for having. Intrigued? I was.

Radin then gives us a tour de force survey of Patanjali's views on yoga and the manner in which contemplative practices have been known for several millennia to produce psi abilities in those who are disciplined enough to undergo them. I found this to be one of the most interesting aspects of the book - a top notch scientist actually bridging the realms of spiritual and scientific endeavor into a single whole. This competent bridging of science and spirituality is something I've been waiting all my life to see and my feeling while reading was one of hope: that this book might be among the first of an emerging new genre.

As the book progresses, we get to hear about Radin's newer psi experiments and the very exciting findings he has been getting in the last several years. There is much to digest here in regard to what these findings mean about being human and about our potential to develop and understand ourselves in exciting and meaningful new ways. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in non-dogmatic spirituality. Anyone who appreciates both the method of science and the aim of religion stands to gain a great deal from Radin's "Supernormal."

Superjob!
By Bruce
I did not read this book looking for evidence of extraordinary psychic abilities. I have experienced many of the things that are discussed here, beginning almost forty years ago, and since that time my search has been for the truth about what they are, where they come from and how to get more of them in my life. Over the years, that search has evolved from being part of the content of my life to being the context of my life.

One thing this book has done for me is to fill in some of the holes and gaps in my picture of what it is and how it works (the "it" being "life"), from an organized, logical and expanded perspective. If I had this book at the beginning, I am certain that I would be at least ten years younger now than I am. But, of course, this kind of book didn't exist forty years ago, and barely exists today, no thanks to the community in which the author matured. The "Scientific Community" itself is the main roadblock to not only this kind of book, but also to unlocking the mysteries of the universe which will allow us to thrive, excel and actualize our full potential, and may be the answer to our survival as individuals and as a species. So this subject is not some obtuse esoteric woo-woo BS the critics try to make it out to be, it is something everyone on the planet should have high on their list of priorities, "the possibilities in being human."

As I read through the book, there were parts I skimmed over. I am not interested in details of an experiment designed to provide evidence of precognition or telepathy. I have had direct experience of both, and a variety of others. I was bored last time I saw that information in some of Radin's work, or someone else's work. But as I stand back and look at this work as a whole, it looks to me as though a mild-mannered reporter of the Daily Truth has slipped into a phone-booth (are they still around?) and transformed into someone who kicked butt, named names, and, as always, done his homework thoroughly. He has provided irrefutable evidence for his thesis and at the same time said to his critics (who have the attitude, "my mind is made up, don't confuse me with the facts"), "calling it `woo-woo' and then disregarding it totally is no longer acceptable. Here are the facts, take your best shot. Fundamentalism in science is about as constructive and useful as it is in the middle-east or in the US Congress." (Maybe that last sentence is just my interpretation, and if I were to expand my interpretation, I would say to critics named in this book, "consider your butt kicked, and if you don't like it, respond to the kicking as described herein").

So, I give this book five stars, because I can't give it ten. I call it "spherical perfection" because if you stand back and look at it from any direction it is perfect. I only hope that if Superdean ever decides to look for a sidekick, I get the chance to audition.

SUPER IMPORTANT
By Robert Steven Thomas
This book is about the current state of affairs in the scientific field of legitimate psi and paranormal research. For those who are unfamiliar with the author, Dean Radin is one of the world's most towering forces active in this field. Radin is also the head of the Institute of Noetic Science (IONS), established almost 40 years ago by former American astronaut and moon-walker Dr. Edgar Mitchell. IONS is today one of the world's foremost research institutes for the study of "consciousness." Though the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), as one of the leading science institutes in the world, formally inducted the Para-psychological Association into its organization in 1969, the ugly truth is the majority of the science and academic leaders in the world continue to snub their noses and ignore the important research, knowledge and cutting-edge progress that has been made in the field of parapsychology over the last 50 years. The biased cynicism of these dinosaurs is totally unacceptable and diametrically opposed to legitimate advancement in any age of reason. As a great man once said - "The discovery of important new knowledge is entirely irrelevant to its implications."
DR. Radin uses the subject and history of Yoga, and some of the more fantastic claims by its ancient adherents as a backdrop to present many of the legitimate new research projects and current evidence which supports the factuality and existence of consciousness as a distinct force of nature and integral component of the universe. He also describes some of the most current repeatable scientific testing and results which strongly support the legitimacy of genuine paranormal presence in many humans. This book is written for the layman and is highly understandable to any reader with a high school diploma or the equivalent. Radin's style is light and breezy with a good portion of wit and cheeky humor mixed in. He also explains the hypocrisy and core controversies behind the atheistic, scientific-materialist's worldview. If you have any interest in learning more about consciousness, the human brain and its ultimate potential this book is an absolute must-read and belongs in your library.
